DesignCon East moves date to autumn in Boston

Dec 1, 2004

DesignCon East 2005, the conference and technology exhibition for electronic design and semiconductor engineers, will be held Sept. 13–15, 2005. The International Engineering Con-sortium (IEC), the conference presenter, announced that the third annual DesignCon East will be held in the Boston area at the Holiday Inn Boxborough Woods, in Boxborough, MA—the same site as the 2004 DesignCon East.

One new twist this year is the date. The first two DesignCon East events were held in late April. However, after an IEC planning session with industry leaders and engineers, it agreed that the eastern conference would be better accommodated by a fall time frame.

"The basis of DesignCon East's success is that it is an educational conference for engineers designed by engineers," IEC senior director John Janowiak says. "Just as we seek the guidance of leading engineers on topics for the conference, we also listen closely to the industry on matters such as the timing of the event. When they said fall worked better, we listened." The September date in the east is complimentary to an early February DesignCon in the west. Furthermore, planners agreed that the temperate month of September in the east is likely to generate more enthusiasm than the mud-and-bug season of a Yankee spring.

Like last year's conference, DesignCon East will focus on providing solutions that engineers can implement immediately in their designs. The educational program will feature presentations of more than 30 technical papers in areas such as IC design and test, board and system-level design, FPGA and structured ASIC design, power and packaging, functional verification, high-speed interconnect, and RF and mixed-signal system design.

In addition to the technical papers, the conference will feature keynote addresses from industry leaders, plenary panels, and a technology exhibition. For more information about the 2005 DesignCon East, visit www.designcon.com/east.
