Smiths Group (London, England), designer and manufacturer of advanced avionics, medical systems, and interconnect products, announced recently the promotion of two staff members. John Langston, currently group managing director—detection, will succeed Einar Lindh as group managing director—specialty engineering, who is retiring in January 2005. In addition, Stephen Phipson, currently managing director—Smiths Interconnect, has been appointed to succeed Langston as group managing director—detection. Phipson will join Smiths chief executive's committee.

Excellon Automation (Torrance, CA), installers of PCB drilling stations, announced recently the appointment of Anthony Kwok as director of sales in Asia. Located in China, Kwok is responsible for overall sales in the Asia Pacific Region. He will augment the current parts and service operation in Hong Kong and will provide a local focus for their Asian customers. In addition, Excellon also announced the appointment of Yaron Shani to director of engineering, and the appointment of Kurt Weber to vice president. Yaron is responsible for product design and development. Weber is leading the newly formed Advanced Manufacturing Technologies group. This group provides advanced process development and Training for Excellon Automation's customers.

Nortech Systems (Minneapolis, MN), a full-service electronics manufacturing service (EMS) and provider of wire and cables assemblies, has named Patrick Beadles as a new national account manager. Beadles will be responsible for promoting Nortech's electronics manufacturing services to key existing commercial accounts and developing new customers.
US Digitaltest (Concord, CA), a division of Digitaltest GmbH of Blankenloch, Germany, has announced that Bravo Technical Services, (BTS) of Terre Haute, IN, has been named a certified sales agent for Digitaltest's line of test systems. Bravo will be covering sales in Ohio, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Kentucky. As a new certified sales agent, BTS will provide Digitaltest's customers with additional sales resources. Bravo Technical Services was founded by veterans of the electronics manufacturing industry, each with experience in test and programming services.
Trompeter (Westlake Village, CA), an international supplier of coaxial interconnects for the telecom, television broadcast, mil/aero, and instrumentation markets, has announced that Interstate Connecting Components (ICC), with corporate headquarters located in Moorestown, NJ and offices in Virginia Beach, VA, and Denver, CO, has been signed as an authorized distributor of the company's products.
CW Industries (Southampton, PA), manufacturer of electrical switches, connectors, and specialized electrical/electronic assemblies, announced the death of retired chairman Burton S. "Bud" Lifson in September at age 81. Lifson, along with his brother, Kalman, ran CW Industries since 1958.

Cookson Electronics Assembly Materials Group (Jersey City, NJ), manufacturer of materials used in the electronic assembly processes, announced recently the appointment of Bruce Moloznik to global director of product management. In his new position, he will direct the global product management team that is responsible for ALPHA branded products and for the execution of all product line strategies, including: Product Technology Road Mapping, New Product Development, and the Global Lead-Free Knowledge Network initiative. In addition, Mike Murphy was recently appointed regional marketing manager. In his new role, Murphy will be responsible for marketing new and existing products as well as identifying opportunities for new product development in the Americas. Both men are located in the company's global headquarters in Jersey City, NJ.
