The UniCam MTP multimode connectors are optimized for high-density applications, such as data centers using ribbon cables. Using push-pull operation, the field-installable connectors terminate 12 fibers in less than four minutes, which saves up to 20 minutes when compared to simplex connectors. No epoxy, no polish, and color-coded, they are IEEE-802.3-, Fibre Channel-, and ANSI/TIA/EIA-568 B.3-compliant, and meet with TIA/EIA-604-5 (FOCIS). They achieve alignment with precision guide pins, have 0.5 to 1.0 dB insertion loss, and temperature cycling of -40°C to 75°C. CORNING CABLE SYSTEMS, HICKORY, NC www.corningcablesystems.com

The 37- and 51-way versions are new to the existing APD series of circular DIN72585 connectors. These styles feature lightweight composite bodies and bayonet coupling, ensuring a tight, vibration-resistant connection, and are sealed up to IP69K. The 37-way product rates at 12 A at 85°C and 20 mating cycles. The 51-way product rates at 2 A at 120°C and 40 mating cycles, and is also available with a secondary locking system and eight mechanical key and color-coding options, eliminating mismating. Insulation resistance is 10 MΩ, and they are protected to 1,000 VAC. ITT INDUSTRIES, NEWTON, MA www.itt.com

USB CONNECTORS

The USB FlashPoint connectors give USB memory sticks the capability to transfer data, such as digital photos and MP3 files, from one stick to another without a computer. There is little increase to the overall size of the standard memory stick, and the connectors can stack two memory sticks back to back. They use one USB port in USB devices, and they recharge themselves when plugged in. XMULTIPLE, SIMI VALLEY, CA www.xmultiple.com

WATERTIGHT CONNECTORS

A new series of watertight 7/16 connectors were developed for use in mobile radio network antennas. These connectors offer outstanding mechanical and electrical properties. Unlike conventional products, they are watertight to IP68 in mated and unmated conditions due to longitudinal and transversal sealing. The optimized one-piece housing, which is developed and produced according to customer specifications, provides excellent passive intermodulation and return loss performance. The new connectors are available as flange jacks, flange plugs, and flange cable jacks. IMS CONNECTOR SYSTEMS, LÖFFINGEN, GERMANY www.imscs.com

HYBRID CONNECTORS

The RF coaxial MDCX line of hybrid connectors for test and measurement, burn-in, and high-power applications features MDCX contacts, which are 30% smaller than SCX contacts. Power and signal contacts can also be included. The MDCX multi-pin connectors feature a low VSWR of 1.25:1 up to 20 GHz (max mated pair). Each MDCX contact has a maximum overall diameter of 0.125" (3.175 mm) fitted into a low-profile metal housing. Insert arrangements are available in 4-, 6-, 8-, and 10-way coaxial assemblies with mixed signal and power contacts available in hybrid layouts. SABRITEC, IRVINE, CA www.sabritec.com

The Mini-BNC (bayonet nut coupling) series of RF connectors meet the growing demand for next-generation telecom and broadband applications that demand higher connector densities. Preserving the high-performance characteristics that have made the standard BNC connector so popular, the Mini-BNC offers the same advantage of a bayonet locking mechanism, allowing for quicker connect and disconnects, but permitting 40% more interconnects in the same area. The Mini-BNC offering is an excellent fit for 75-Ω systems, offering 500 mating cycles, electrical performance up to 2 GHz, and intermatability with competitive miniature BNC offerings. M8 PLUG CONNECTORS

These newly available M8 plug connectors come with Piercecon connection technology. Wires are connected with no need for soldering, screwing, or crimping. The contact takes place by piercing the end of the wire when the plug is screwed together. The Piercecon technology makes it easy to assemble two-, three-, or four-conductor cable with wire gauges from 26 to 22 AWG. Connection time is reduced to a minimum because no special tools are required. The M8 plug connectors are available in male and female versions for three and four positions. PUSH-PULL CONNECTORS

Ethernet is now being adopted for use in harsh factory environments and a common new interface connector is the RJ-45 Ethernet connector. These connectors are usually encapsulated into a bulky metal or plastic housing that substantially increases the entire package size. These small-form-factor RJ-45 connectors with IP67 characteristics have been developed in response to the needs of users. The RJ-industrial push-pull connector has one of the smallest IP67 package available based on RJ-45, and has a push-pull locking mechanism, a peripheral seal with IP67 performance, and it supports horizontal cables up to AWG 22. These new waterproof SMB RF connectors have an overall diameter of 19 mm with a panel-fixing hole diameter of 16 mm. Rated at IP68 to provide complete protection from harsh environments, the connectors use industry-standard SMB plugs and jacks together with RG-174 cable. The 50-W systems have a frequency response up to 4 GHz using goldplated bodies and contacts to ensure system performance and reliability. Tough UL-94V0-rated molding materials provide complete protection for the SMB interface. BULGIN COMPONENTS, ESSEX, ENGLAND www.bulgin.co.uk

FMC CONNECTORS

The flexible microstrip connector (FMC) series is designed for PCB applications in the tightest spaces. Using "coaxial bullets", radial and axial misalignments of board-to-board connections are compensated for. Compared to SMP connectors, the FMC interface design allows for misalignment by maintaining constant electrical integrity through the entire connection. The FMC's small sizes allow board-to-board connections with distances smaller than 7 mm. FMC connectors can be used up to 10 GHz, with a temperature range from –55° C up to 155°C. The maximum soldering temperature is 260°C. FMC connectors are supplied in tape-and-reel packaging for automatic component placement. ROSENBERGER, OBERBAYERN, GERMANY www.rosenberger.de

POSITIVE STOP CONNECTORS

The new Positive Stop connectors offer fast, easy, and cost-effective site deployments. Easy-to-install, the Positive Stop connectors require no special tools or torque wrenches and are fully tightened in less than one rotation. Positive Stop connectors provide a secure, foolproof connection. One rotation with a standard wrench correctly fits the connector to seal out moisture and ensure electrical integrity. The installer is given both visual and mechanical verification that the fit is secure. Positive Stop connectors are waterproof to IP66 and IP68, even unmated. SEALED CONNECTORS

These hermetically sealed connectors are designed to meet and handle all sealing requirements. Once the connector series and body configuration is established, the inner construction of the connector can be designed to supply the sealing required for your operating environment. Sealing can be accomplished by using O-rings, epoxy seals, and glass-to-metal seals. Seals can easily withstand air pressures of 100 PSI+ of pressure and helium leak rates of less than 1 × 10-8 cc/s of helium tracer gas. Applications can range from moisture resistance sealing, space applications, material detection systems, isolation of volatile materials, and altitude problems.
