Tecnomatix and ITOCHU partner

Tecnomatix Technologies (Herzlia, Israel), the developers of manufacturing process management (MPM) solutions, has announced that its electronics subsidiary Tecnomatix Unicam has entered into a European-wide partnership agreement with ITOCHU SysTech GmbH (Dusseldorf, Germany), a value-added reseller of production machines and test systems for the electronic and microelectronic industries. ITOCHU SysTech also named Tecnomatix its preferred supplier of testing and repair manufacturing software tools.

SAS standard approved

The SCSI Trade Association (STA) and the InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS) announced recently that the American National Standards Institute has approved the Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) standard. Technical Committee T10, under the direction of INCITS, is responsible for all SCSI standards development. The specifications for the 3.0 Gbit/s standard were in near-final form six months ago at which time OEMs began preparing products for market. Several vendors have demonstrated working SAS products and are now beginning to announce product availability. The SCSI Trade Association will assist OEMs in preparing their SAS products for market.

A disruptive conference

The IPC-Association Connecting Electronics Industries has announced that its Technology Market Research Council (TMRC) will sponsor its Spring Conference on May 13-14, 2004, at the Hyatt Regency, Baltimore, MD. The conference, titled "Opportunities in Disruptive Technologies for the Electronic Interconnection Industry," will provide PCB fabricators, electronics assembly companies, their customers, and suppliers with insights into disruptive technologies that will have a major impact on their businesses.

Mexican momentum

I-Source Technical Services, a manufacturer of SMT stencils, carriers, fixtures, BGA rework tools, and inspection templates for the electronic assembly industry, announced the opening of a new manufacturing plant in Tijuana, Mexico. The plant enables direct supply and improved service to customers in Baja and the interior of Mexico. Based in Southern California, I-Source serves the medical, aerospace, telecommunications, and automotive industries.

Dick Rosen of AVX to keynote CARTS 2004

ARLINGTON, VA — Dick Rosen, chairman of electronic component manufacturer AVX (Myrtle Beach, SC), will make the keynote presentation at CARTS 2004, March 29 to April 1 at the Sheraton Gunter Hotel in San Antonio, TX. This year's event will include 40 papers in the technical symposium, seminars on new technologies and world markets, an exhibit with 25 vendors, and a Tuesday evening reception.

The CARTS three-day symposium has been the leading passive component technology conference and exposition for 24 years. The event was acquired by the Electronic Components, Assemblies & Materials Association (ECA) earlier this year, and is organized by the Components Technology Institute (CTI).
