OCC expands lineup of extreme harsh environment connectors for military applications

Sep 15, 2011

Optical Cable Corporation (NASDAQ: OCC) announced that its lineup of harsh environment connectors continues to expand and includes products based on the retired U.S. DoD MIL-PRF-83526/16 and /17 performance specification. In addition to these 83526 multi-channel plug and receptacle connectors, the company reports that it is also now manufacturing U.S. DoD  QPL (Qualified Products List) MIL-C-83522 Military ST connector and ST adapter products.

Available in either 4- or 12-channel shell sizes (2, 4, 6, 8 and 12 CH options), the COTS-83526 family of tactical fiber optic connectors includes features that service a wide variety of harsh environments. Companion receptacles include Internal Jam-Nut, External Jam-Nut, and Flange Mount configurations. Each of these receptacles are also available with Integrated Strain Relief backshells to better protect the optical fiber .

“At the heart of this family of hermaphroditic fiber optic connectors is the TC1640CA ‘environmentally sealed’ terminus system," says Rick Hobbs, Director, Business Development, at OCC. “This sealed system provides superior optical performance while maintaining resistance to dust, moisture or even liquid submersion while mated either plug-to-plug or plug-to-receptacle."

The OCC family of qualified MIL-C-83522 ST and ST adapter products features non-optical disconnect and is available in nickel-plated brass, or stainless steel. Optimally suited for the harsh, unprotected environments of aircraft, spacecraft, shipboard and land-based applications, this highly durable individually mounted connector system withstands extreme temperature change, shock, vibration and corrosion. The single terminus connectors are available for multi-mode or single-mode applications.

“From extreme temperatures to dust, chemicals and vibration, OCC products are relied upon time and time again," concludes OCC's Hobbs. “We are proud that our products provide the conduit that helps worldwide militaries communicate with speed and clarity."
