AUTOMATION PLATFORM — The latest addition to the Polaris Assembly Cell family, Polaris Jr. is focused on the lower end of robotic and nonrobotic assembly processes. Polaris Jr. offers single-process final assembly automation. These processes include dispensing, screw driving, and pick-and-place, packaged onto a standardized tool interface and using a pre-existing selection of more than 20 tool modules. The Polaris Jr. allows cell sizes from 500 mm up to 2.5 m while using common structure and controls. A standard machine gives economy of scale and faster lead time than complete custom cells. PICK-AND-PLACE MACHINE — The Opal-XII surface-mount component placement machine accommodates up to 100 8-mm tape feeders, and delivers comprehensive component handling technology through a choice of vision systems. With a 45-mm line array camera as standard and optional area CCD cameras, the new machine handles placement of components such as BGA, flip-chips, CSP, connectors, and odd-form SMDs. Accuracy is up to 40 µm at 3 sigma, and maximum throughput is 11.5 kc/h. ASSEMBLEON, EINDHOVEN, THE NETHERLANDS. www.assembleon.com

VISION SENSOR SYSTEM — The new F210 high-speed vision sensor combines 1.4-ms image acquisition with advanced measurement algorithms for faster measurement and inspection operations. The F210 also features productivity tools and is available with two cameras for multi-angle inspections or wide-area field-of-view measurements. The F210 system is ideal for packaging inspection applications, especially in high-speed food and drug operations, and in automotive assembly-line and part inspection. It can also be used effectively in material handling, pharmaceutical, robotic guidance, and electronics applications. OMRON ELECTRONICS, SCHAUMBURG, IL. www.info.omron.com

CRIMPING TOOLS — The redesigned Y750HS Hypress Series hydraulic hand-operated crimping tools are now more reliable, more lightweight, and faster to use. These crimping tools have a large 1.65-in. head opening and 12 tons of crimping force for easy tapping, splicing, and terminating of overhead lines and Hyground compression grounding connectors. The lightweight, self-contained Y750HS is mated to a rapid advance pump for faster crimps and features a C-shaped head that rotates 355°, providing easy tool removal from continuous conductors. Rubber-covered head and handles protect the tool from impact. FCI-BURNDY, MANCHESTER, NH. www.fciconnect.com

FIBER SPLICER — The Elastomeric Lab Splice has been brought back to life to satisfy customer demand. The new lab splice has been re-engineered and is priced much lower than its predecessor, at $5.95 each. The Lab Splice can be reused hundreds of times to quickly splice bare fibers and is especially useful in laboratory environments where equipment is changed around frequently. FIBEROPTIC AUTOMATION — The novel Gemini Cx integrated polish, clean, and inspect automated manufacturing cell now has a new process for terminating 24 fiber (MT-24) multifiber connectors. The batch-polisher maintains the protrusion uniformity of all 24 fibers within the connector as well as among all the multifiber connectors within the polishing fixture. To do this, the Gemini Cx machine features a floating gimbal head, adaptive force control, and roll-to-roll polishing media dispensing. SAGITTA, HAUPPAUGE, NY. www.sagitta.com

CABLE STRIPPER/COILER — The heavy-duty and powerful MegaStrip 9600 automatically measures, cuts, and strips wire from 22 to 4/0 AWG, cables with up to 1.0-in. diameters, and flat ribbon cables up to 3.3 in. wide. With patented indexing capability, up to four blade pairs can be used to ensure the maximum processing flexibility. The CableCoiler 4000 operates with the MegaStrip 9600 to create an integrated, heavy-duty cable-processing system. The cable is fed from the MegaStrip 9600, through a feeding pipe directly to the coiler pins. SCHLEUNIGER, MANCHESTER, NH. www.schleuniger.com

PULL TESTER — The WTT-110 wire-terminal pull tester from Checkline quickly and accurately measures the pull or "pull-off" force on most soldered or solderless wire terminals. This easy-to-use, all-in-one, single-range solution handles most testing applications without additional grips, fixtures, or accessories. The WTT-110 employs strain-gauge sensing to provide a resolution of 1/5000 with an accuracy of 0.5%. It is suitable for wires from AWG 30 to AWG 8. ELECTROMATIC, CEDARHURST, NY. www.checkline.com
