EMI Shield — SnapShot EMI Shield is a board-level, multi-cavity shielding product. The metallized, thermoformed plastic shield reportedly is easy to install and remove, and accommodates intricately shaped designs. It is electrically insulated on the inside and attaches to the PCB using a snap mechanism. Installation of the shield begins by applying BGA spheres to the PCB panel using a standard stencil printer with a special head. After the PCB has been populated and reflowed, the shield is snapped in place. Because the installation is not permanent, it can be removed by hand without special tools. The product is packaged in bulk, trays or tape-and-reel. W.L. Gore & Associates Inc., Elkton, Md.

RF Emissions Guide — This RF Emissions Testing Guide describes the key aspects of three basic methods used to test EMC emissions in electronic products: testing using an AMN/LISN (artificial mains network/ling impedance stabilizing network), absorbing clamp testing for disturbance power on connected cables and radiated emissions testing performed on an open area test site. This 50-page guide provides test layouts and set-up configurations for each test method, as well as descriptive diagrams. Additionally, the guide offers information on the necessary equipment needed for each test method, and tips and precautions for conducting tests. Schaffner EMC Inc., Edison, N.J.

Syringe Reservoirs — LB Series Syringe Reservoirs are designed to block light wavelengths between 240 and 550 nm. The translucent, dark-amber products are suitable for use with standard air-powered dispensing systems and reportedly prevent many UV-cure adhesives and other light-sensitive assembly fluids from curing prematurely. Special pistons, installed after the reservoirs are filled, are said to prevent dripping and eliminate fluid waste by wiping reservoir walls 97 percent clean. They are available in 3, 5, 10, 30 and 55 cc capacities. EFD Inc., East Providence, R.I.

Wire Twisters — These Wire Twisters allow users to twist wires with or without connectors. They can accommodate wires up to 0.25" OD or two 16 AWG stranded wires. Twisting is said to be completed without damaging the conductors. The products incorporate a speed control and a counter to produce a consistent number of clockwise or counterclockwise twists. The units are electric-foot pedal activated, and setup reportedly is quick and easy. Custom twisting heads are available. The Eraser Co. Inc., Syracuse, N.Y.

EMI Gaskets — Soft-Shield 7000 EMI Gaskets feature non-urethane soft foam core materials that reportedly provide high levels of shielding and long-term physical stability. The products combine a highly conductive, plated cloth wrapper with a customized polymeric foam core and high-temperature, pressure-sensitive adhesives. They provide more than 90 dB of EMI attenuation from 20 MHz to 10 GHz. The gaskets are said to maintain their physical and mechanical integrity in high operating temperatures for a service life exceeding 10 years, and demonstrate minimum compression set at elevated temperatures (125°C) over long operating periods. The gaskets come in standard lengths and cut-to-length strips in a range of cross sections. Chomerics, Woburn, Mass.

Marking System — The EZ-Mark Marking System can be used to mark terminal blocks and wire markers, both wrap-around adhesive-type and tube insert-type, as well as panel and push-button nameplates. The software features the ability to import both spreadsheet format documents and CAD files. It reportedly can plot markers for most terminal blocks. The kit includes the plotter, two tag templates, ink, solvent, printer cable, pen, software and manual. Automation Systems Interconnect Inc. (ASI), Carlisle, Pa.

Epoxies — SC 2000 Series Single-component Epoxies are suitable for bonding metal, ceramics, glass and other substrates. These heat-cured, self-leveling adhesives require no mixing and reportedly provide thermal stability, corrosion resistance and gap-filling properties. They are available in four 100 percent solids formulations to accommodate a range of applications. SC 2001 features viscosity (250,000 cps at 75°F) and thermal conductivity suitable for potting and encapsulating. SC 2002 is a structural adhesive resistant to oil. SC 2003 is formulated for applications requiring greater sag- and run-resistance. SC 2004 is resistant to aluminum sulfate solutions. Devcon, Danvers, Mass.

Installation Tool — The PTS Cable Tie Installation Tool is designed for use with subminiature through standard cross-section cable ties. Pneumatic, push-button operation reportedly allows the product to automatically tension and cut off the cable tie in a fraction of a second. A cushioned, non-slip handle and controlled tip ejection that retains the cut-off tip are featured. The narrow nose is said to improve visibility and access to bundles in confined areas. Panduit Corp., Tinley Park, Ill.

Potting Compound — Trigger Cure is a two-part, UV-curing potting compound. The product features a 1:1 ratio and can be applied via disposable tip static mix dispensers. Exposure to longwave UV light is said to cure the product to a depth of 0.25" in 20 seconds or less. The remaining liquid resin gels in 7 to 20 minutes; full cure is achieved in 24 hours at room temperature. The compound reportedly provides the fast-cure benefits of light curing with the chemical cure of traditional potting compounds. It is suitable for electronic applications such as the potting of sensors, PCBs and LEDs. Dymax Corp., Torrington, Conn.

Drawing Tool — The Tru Draw Online Drawing Tool is a Web-based tool that allows users to access an online catalog of RF coaxial connector drawings, modify them and request a custom part quote. This interactive drawing/text tool can add grid lines, part modifications, colors, text and comments to the online product drawings. Featuring a template with industry-standard graphics interfaces, it reportedly permits instant e-mail dialogue with the company's product development engineers. The tool is said to improve accuracy by allowing design engineers and the company to focus on identical part drawings with comments and changes highlighted in color if desired. The product can be downloaded from www.trucorporation.com. Tru Corp., Peabody, Mass.
