Test System — The 2790 SourceMeter System is said to improve test efficiency and throughput in applications such as continuity and hi-pot testing of connectors, cables and wire harnesses. The product's low-energy voltage and current sources reportedly reduce the possibility of device damage while accurately measuring critical low- and high-resistance parameters. Safety features include a hardware source interlock and an automatic output cable capacitance/discharge circuit for high-voltage insulation resistance testing. Using either two- or four-wire measurements for testing, it consists of a digital multimeter mainframe with two expansion slots for source/switch plug-in modules. Fiber Optic Tester — This Fiber Optic Tester features an expandable fiber optic chassis with bidirectional ports to allow loss measurements in both directions. It includes the company's software to control and record loss measurements. The tester allows launch conditions for the light signal transmission to be set according to customer specifications. Programmers can use the same interface and instructions to set up test parameters for a fiber test as for an electrical test. Attenuation reportedly can be measured across the fiber without physically changing the cable connection. DIT-MCO International Corp., Kansas City, Mo.

Test Accessories — These Alligator Test Clip Products have a Category III, 1,000 V, 10 A rating. Adaptable to meet a range of test needs, the products attach to terminals up to 0.3" (7.6 mm) OD. Available products include two probe tip adapters, two patch cords and one alligator clip for test lead attachment. Probe tip adapters reportedly interface to industry-standard 2.0 and 4.0 mm lantern-tip DMM probes. The patch cords include alligator-to-alligator and alligator-to-right-angle sheathed banana plug styles, and feature flexible, heat-resistant silicone wire. The alligator clip (with jack) is said to interface with any 4.0 mm banana plug with safety sheaf. Pomona Electronics, Everett, Wash.

Benchtop Cable Tester — The Signature 1100H+ Hipot Cable Tester features a large display with a menu-driven user interface. Reportedly capable of hi-pot testing up to 1,000 VDC, the product is suitable for testing cables, harnesses and other wiring assemblies up to 1,024 points. It performs a complete check for opens, shorts, miswires, high-resistance errors, insulation resistance problems and dielectric withstanding (arcing), as well as testing resistors, capacitors and diodes for proper value and polarity. The tester is said to self-learn the interconnection pattern of a sample cable, and can test additional cables as fast as the user plugs and unplugs them. Test results are given audibly and visually on the four-line ¥ 20-character LCD; an LED provides pass/fail verification. Cirris Systems Corp., Salt Lake City, Utah

Wiring Analyzer — The Horizon 1500 Lite Wiring Analyzer is designed to pinpoint the exact location of faults in the product under test as a percentage of cable length from the designated connector end. A "build-aid" is featured that ensures the proper insertion of each wire before allowing the next connection to be made. Requisite wire lists can be downloaded from another PC, floppy disk or network, or acquired using the standard "self-learn" algorithm. A 128-point, low-voltage testing with modular expansion capability up to 1,024 points is reported. The product is equipped with hard disk, floppy disk and standard PC peripheral ports. CableTest Systems Inc., Markham, Ontario, Canada

Cable Harness Tester — The CableEye System provides guided assembly for cable and wire harness manufacturing. During construction, the assembly technician touches a supplied probe to an unterminated wire or connector pin. The system's software shows exactly where that point should be connected. Audible feedback confirms a proper connection or warns of an error. The product automatically draws wiring schematics, prints graphic reports, prints labels and stores data for future reference. This 512-point, resistance-capable system includes advanced Windows software. CAMI Research Inc., Lexington, Mass.

Fiber Optic Tester — Fiber Lab 3200 is a fiber management package that houses individual spools of fiber that provide 1, 2, 4 or 8 dB of real fiber attenuation, or up to 25 km in each of four individual attenuation areas. Featuring standard SC-APC connectors on the front panel (with other types optional), the spools can be connected in series with short patch cords to provide the real fiber attenuation required to simulate an actual application. Said to eliminate fiber crimping and breakage, the product can be ordered with a range of connector interfaces, fiber types, attenuation specified at 1,310 or 1,550 nm, and standard SMF-28 fiber or other single- or multimode fiber types. It is suitable for benchtop or 19" rack mounting. M2 Optics Inc., Los Angeles, Calif.

Pull Tester — The MPT-100 Crimp Pull Test Instrument is a portable tensile strength pull tester used to certify the crimping of coaxial connectors and center pins to coaxial cable. The tool makes ratchet-action, destructive pull type force measurements and provides up to 200 lb of force. The digital readout displays the exact fail force point in 0.5" high digits. The product operates on AC power or rechargeable battery power, making it suitable for use in the test lab, manufacturing floor or installation site. It reportedly confirms installed connector compliance with TL 9000 and industry pull forces standards. MidTel Technologies Inc., Arlington Heights, Ill.
