ITT's power connectors serve electric submersible pumps

Nov 11, 2009

November 11, 2009ITT Interconnect Solutions recently developed new field-attachable power connectors. The ICS BIW Power Cable Connectors can be used to join round and flat cables at up to 1 AWG, providing what the company describes as an easier method of joining downhole power cables for electric submersible pumps than the traditional splicing method.

“Our new Power Cable Connectors eliminate the need to splice downhole cables, which can save up to three hours of rig time, increasing efficiency and lowering costs,” said Keith Teichmann, the company’s director of marketing. “Using field-proven installation techniques, the connectors can be installed on site or prior to delivery.”

ITT says its Power Connectors feature robust internal components housed in compact, heavy-duty steel shells, ensuring an extended lifespan and continuous, reliable performance in harsh hydrocarbon environments. Outer connector bodies have been designed with the smallest possible size profiles while still retaining their inherent mechanical strength.

Available separately, mid-joint protectors for 4.5-, 3.5-, 2.875-, and 2.375-inch tubing sizes provide additional mechanical protection. The Power Cable Connectors are rated to 5,000 VAC for up to 140A, with pressure rating to 5,000psig at 149 deg. C (300 deg. F).
