Victrex Polymer tabbed as Sony Green partner

Sep 9, 2010

WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA -- Victrex Polymer Solutions, a division of Victrex plc, has been named as an accredited Sony Green Partner and as such qualifies as a Designated Raw Materials (DRM) supplier to the consumer electronics giant. Victrex is a provider of high performance polyaryletherketones, including the VICTREX PEEK polymer, VICOTE Coatings and APTIV films. The company supplies a number of Victrex products for use in Sony products.

“It is critically important to our customers that their suppliers implement the highest level of environmental and health and safety standards when it comes to manufacturing raw materials," comments Simon Evans, SHE & Quality Manager for Victrex Polymer Solutions. “Our certification as a Sony Green Partner validates our strong belief that good safety, health and environmental performance go hand-in-hand with good business performance."

Sony introduced its Sony Green Partner Environmental Quality Program in an effort to ensure its suppliers adhere to the company’s environmental policies and stringent requirements for parts, devices and raw materials. The program is based on an internal standard, the Sony Technical Standard SS-00259. This standard closely follows global legislation and surrounding the company's Management Regulations for the Environment-Related Substances to be controlled which are included in Parts and Materials directive. Sony only procures materials from accredited Green Partners.

Victrex says that its established environmental friendly and quality management systems along with its commitment to environmentally responsible manufacturing has enabled  it to become the polyaryletherketone supplier of choice not only to Sony but to other leading global manufacturers including Robert Bosch GmbH. Victrex products are manufactured under strict EU Safety and Environmental Legislation to comply with internationally recognized legal requirements, standards, directives and guidelines such as GADSL, RoHS, FDA and REACH, and manufactured and sold in compliance with ISO 9001:2008.

“At Victrex, we strive to meet the ever more demanding needs of our customers, including the need for “greener products," concluded Evans. “By working closely with customers such as Sony our team continues to offer products that not only meet, and often exceed, quality and performance requirements, but that is also meeting ever more stringent environmental standards."
