TE Connectivity adds lower pin counts to Fortis Zd backplane connector family

Oct 10, 2011

The Fortis Zd connector family from TE Connectivity now includes compact 6-row configurations in addition to the original 9-row versions. According to the company, well suited to C4ISR applications requiring high-speed, compact, and lightweight connectivity in rugged environments, the new 6-row connectors can be used in such space-constrained applications as UAVs, satellites, and man-portable systems. Supporting two differential pairs per row, the new connectors are available with 10 or 20 columns for up to 40 signal pairs.

The Fortis Zd connectors support data rates of 12+ Gb/s and are designed to meet the rugged mechanical and environmental requirements of defense and aerospace applications. TE Connectivity contends that, by combining the best features of commercial high-speed backplane connectors with proven Mil-Spec mini-box contacts, the high-performance system enables improved communications, unmatched situational awareness, and technologically superior command/control.

To meet a range of mechanical and EMI environments, the connectors are available in three shell styles: all-plastic shell, tamped metal shell for enhanced mechanical protection and shielding, and machined metal shell for the ultimate in connector protection and robustness.

TE will be featuring the new connector technology at AUSA 2011 on October 10-12, at Booth 7153 (Hall D) in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit http://www.te.com/.
