Wiring harness and automotive cable producer Yazaki is currently constructing its fourth plant in Om Larayes in the governorate of Gafsa, Tunisia. The plant will produce automotive cables for Mercedes trucks. The news was announced in the periodical bulletin released by FIPA, Tunisia’s Foreign Investment Promotion Agency.
Construction of the company's Metlaoui factory, where cables for Opel and Ford automobiles will be manufactured and assembled, will start on June 2010. The company's Redayef site specializing in the manufacture and assembly of cables for the first electric car in Tunisia, will be operational in the fourth quarter of 2010.
According to FIPA’s news bulletin, Yasaki will provide 3,500 jobs in Tunisia by 2011 and 5,200 jobs by 2012, against 1,400 jobs in 2010.
