The California Energy Commission announced that it has chosen EV Connect (Huntington Beach, CA) as implementation partner for a $1.9 million electric vehicle infrastructure improvement project. EV Connect will work alongside electric vehicle charging stations provider ClipperCreek (Auburn, CA) to upgrade existing EV infrastructure meet the needs of new electric cars, with chargers conforming to the SAE J1772 standard required by newer models.
The project will upgrade charging stations throughout the state in order to adapt to new electric vehicle car models from automakers such as Irvine-based Fisker Automotive, Nissan and General Motors, among others, and to accommodate existing green vehicles. The work is expected to start in the fall of 2010 and finish by winter of 2011.
“By upgrading existing electric vehicle charger stations across the state, California continues its leadership in promoting alternative fuel and plug-in vehicle technology,” said California Energy Commissioner Anthony Eggert. “This investment will help prepare California for a clean, energy efficient future and advance the state’s transportation infrastructure.”
