Ixia, Deutsche Telekom lay 100G groundwork

Jun 14, 2010

CALABASAS, Calif. -- Converged IP test platform provider Ixia (NASDAQ: XXIA) announced that it has assisted Deutsche Telekom in testing a pre-deployment 100 Gbps network link.

Deutsche Telekom says it selected Ixia higher speed Ethernet (HSE) K2 test platform due to its capability to generate and analyze full 100 Gbps line rate traffic, with up to 1 million flows per module. Ixia says the K2’s platforms extensive routing and MPLS protocol emulation allows testing of control plane performance in parallel with layer 2-3 metrics such as real-time latency, inter-arrival time, packet loss, data integrity, and sequence checking.

“With Ixia we are able to test interoperability, performance and features of 100Gbps networking equipment, allowing us to develop the innovative, ultra high speed network service offerings in a timely manner prior to the ratification of the IEEE802.3ba standard,” said Wolfgang Schmitz, Senior Vice President of DT’s Technology Engineering Center. “Ixia provided the necessary solution to validate our 100 Gbps link test.”

Ixia cites its K2 40 Gbps and 100 Gbps modules as among the first-to-market test solutions for network equipment manufacturers and service providers developing 40/100 Gbps devices and networks, providing full IP layer 1-7 measurement and analysis. Test requirements for 40/100 Gbps compliant devices range from generating and analyzing the simplest layer 2 data plane traffic all the way up to sophisticated stateful network communication testing, including IPTV, VoIP, video on demand, HDTV, Internet gaming, and multimedia streaming services.

Ixia’s K2 modules support unframed bit error ratio testing (BERT), allowing individual PCS lane BER test and error injection over a wide range of PRBS patterns, including support for PMD's in IEEE802.3ba draft standard. A full set of BERT-related and bit error ratio (BER) statistics are available.

"Ixia is the only testing company with proven test solutions to assist network equipment manufacturers and carriers with successful roll-outs of 100 GE devices and networks," said Errol Ginsberg, Chief Innovation Officer at Ixia. "DT’s successful trial is proof positive that carrier 100 GE technology is quickly moving to the next phase of deployment and high volume usage."
