Fischer issues rugged miniature connectors for wearable defense electronics

Fischer Connectors SA (Saint-Prex, Switzerland) has introduced its MiniMax series of high-density rugged miniature connectors for handheld or wearable electronic devices in military, medical, and test applications that require connectors that are easy for users to handle.

The new connectors are IP68 rated even unmated, notes the company, which makes them suitable for underwater applications even in case of accidental disconnection. The connector's design is also waterproof to a depth of nearly 400 feet for a 24-hour submersion.

According to Fischer, the MiniMax connectors have 20 0.5-amp signal contacts and four 5-amp power contacts, providing three times more pins than a standard Fischer connector of similar size. The miniature connectors are 11.9 millimeters in diameter and 12.5 millimeters long.

The connector's ergonomic rugged design is convenient to manipulate with one hand only, even with gloves, notes the company. The connector features endurable keying, visual color coding to avoid misconnection and improve safety, and a push-pull locking or quick release system.
