Protokraft's Mustang series of Jam Nut Gigabit Ethernet optical media converters are suitable for industrial, military, mining and petrochemical applications where conditions such as vibration, shock and extreme temperature levels are a factor.

Incorporating TFOCA II optical interfaces, the media converters consist of an optoelectronic receiver and a transmitter integrated with 1000Base-T to LX/SX or 10/100Base-TX to FX Ethernet media conversion circuitry. The circuitry is fitted inside a sealed unit with the connector interface.

The optical transmitters consist of 85 nm VCSEL or 1310 nm FP lasers. The receivers comprise limiting post-amplifiers, preamplifier assemblies and InGaAs or GaAs PIN. The electrical interface of the Mustang series is a MIL-DTL-83513 Micro D connector, which allows interconnection to network interface cards, routers or Ethernet switches.

The converters support Gigabit or Fast Ethernet and singlemode or multimode fiber optic links. They operate under a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. The connectors' aluminium construction and alloy case are sturdy and corrosion-resistant.
