Japan's Furukawa Automotive Systems announced that it will build a new facility for manufacturing automotive wiring harnesses in the Philippines. The company will reportedly invest approximately JPY 3 billion for the facility to start operation in March 2013. The plant will be located in Lima Technology Center, 65 kilometers south of Manila, and will primarily export products for use in Japan.
The one story plant will reportedly encompass a 21,000 square meter floor plan, constructed on a site of 50,000 square meters. It will reportedly employ approximately 2,500 workers by the end of 2014.

Furukawa Electric group already operates a Philippines production site for the manufacture of steering roll connectors, one of the main components for automotive airbags. With the new plant's production, Furukawa Electric group's output capacity for automotive wiring harnesses will increase by about 10%.
