Kansas performing arts and convention center picks Xirrus for 802.11n Wi-Fi

May 27, 2010

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- Xirrus announced the deployment of its 802.11n Wi-Fi Arrays throughout the Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center's 18-acre campus in Wichita, Kansas. According to Xirrus, the wireless deployment will provide the facility's clients and guests with a wireless network that is robust enough to support over a thousand conference attendees without diminishing the amount of bandwidth in other areas of the building.

"We're a multi-purpose facility," said Barney Byard, Technical Director at Century II Performing Arts and Convention Center. "We do a combination of trade shows, conventions, consumer shows, and a lot of live performance. We wanted to be able to offer free Wi-Fi to our clients to ensure that we are competitive in our service offerings and that we're providing the best service possible to the Wichita community."

Barney continued, "The City of Wichita's IT department introduced us to the idea of Xirrus Arrays. Our main deciding factor was user density because no other device allowed us to get hundreds of users online concurrently. There are times when, because we are a multi-use facility, we needed the ability to support users that number in the hundreds in fixed locations, rather than in the dozens. The Xirrus folks did a great job of assessing the physical layout and listening to us in terms of how the different spaces were utilized so they could make a recommendation that would well suit our needs. We're very satisfied with the hardware and application as well as the upgradeability of the Xirrus Array. It's a simple upgrade because of the way the system is designed - it has the ability to fill our needs now as well as in the future."
