Fiber Optic Adhesive

F113SC adhesive was formulated specifically for terminating all types of fiber optic connectors. It is said to provide both high bond strength, as well as low-stress connections with no pistoning. The product has a dark-blue color, which is said to allow for easy polishing. Because for some applications a clear adhesive is preferred, F131 adhesive, which reportedly provides the same high strength and nonpistoning properties required for terminations, is available.

High-temperature Adhesive

Resbond S5H13 is an adhesive formulated to bond dissimilar materials for use in high-temperature, corrosive environments. Users can mix and apply the product, which is said to adhere to most metals, plastics, high-performance composites, glass and ceramics, and cures at room temperature. It is usable to 500°F and is reportedly resistant to corrosion, common chemicals and thermal shock. The adhesive is suitable for use in any high-temperature, high-performance application.

Photocurable Adhesive

Luxtrak 4035 photocurable adhesive is designed to enhance productivity in the assembly of optical, fiber optic and optoelectronic devices. Reportedly, the low-viscosity adhesive cures in seconds when exposed to visible or UV light. Curing with visible light allows curing of highly filled grades and curing through UV-opaque substrates. This adhesive provides thin bond lines and is said to be suitable for the assembly of photodiode arrays and fiber optic terminations.

These surface mount PGA sockets have "floating" contacts that contain pin receptacles that are said to compensate for the effects of unevenly dispensed solder paste. These contacts allow 0.008" vertical travel, reacting to capillary action as the solder paste melts. They are designed for vapor-phase and IR reflow soldering. The insulator is molded from high-temperature PCT polyester and has a heat-deflection temperature of 490°F (254°C).

Card-edge Connectors

Signal contacts have been added to the original power modules of the Crown Edge family of modular card-edge connectors. The connectors use Crown Band technology configured to mate directly with a 0.062" (1.6 mm) thick PCB edge or with a solid bus bar. CHICAGO - The Electronic Distribution Show and Conference 2000 is inaugurating a new Suppliers Showcase as an adjunct to its show, which is being held in Las Vegas, May 16-18, 2000. The goal of the new venue is to allow the manufacturing decision makers of distributor companies to come together with manufacturers of tools and tool kits, wire harness equipment, and stripping and assembly equipment. The new exhibitors can participate in a special pavilion or as conventional exhibitors.

BTC Signs Sumitomo

RALEIGH, N.C. - BTC Electronic Components signed a distribution agreement with Sumitomo Electric Interconnect Products to distribute its line of environmentally sealed shield terminators. BTC distributes commercial and military connectors, as well as heat-shrink products.

Ortel Signs with Comlink Systems

ALHAMBRA, Calif. - Ortel Corp., a designer and manufacturer of optoelectronic components, has an agreement with Canadian systems integrator Comlink Systems Inc. Comlink will distribute Ortel`s fiber optic technologies for telecommunications and cable television applications.

Flextronics and Dii to Merge

SAN JOSE, Calif. and NIWOT, Colo. - Flextronics International Ltd. and The Dii Group Inc. announced the signing of a definitive merger agreement for a stock-for-stock merger. The merger will allow Flextronics to expand its PCB operations and design services.

New Company Formed

DUARTE, Calif. - ISC Engineering Llc has been formed by Steve Burk and Loc Ha, previous owners of Inland Empire Interconnects (Ontario, Canada). ISC is a manufacturer of custom-molded cable assembly products, including the design, development and production aspects.

MCMS Expands with Mexico Facility

NAMPA, Idaho - MCMS Inc. announced the establishment an 112,000 sq. ft. operation in Monterrey, Mexico. The facility will initially focus on PCB assembly and test and will expand to include system assembly as well as order fulfilment services.

Solectron Acquires SMART

MILPITAS and FREMONT, Calif. - Solectron Corp. and SMART Modular Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of memory modules and cards, embedded computers, and I/O products, announced the completion of a definitive merger agreement. SMART will operate as part of Solectron`s technology solutions business unit.

3Com Sells Operations in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY - 3Com Corp. sold its manufacturing operations in Salt Lake City to Manufacturers` Services Ltd. (Concord, Mass.). The agreement includes 3Com`s manufacturing operations that produce Palm hand-held computers and 3Com`s mobile connectivity products. Manufacturers` Services will continue to manufacture these products for 3Com.

Sanmina Acquires Wireless EMSS Operations

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Sanmina Corp. completed its acquisition of Nortel Networks` Wireless Electro-Mechanical Subsystem Assembly (EMSS) operations in Chateaudun, France. The transaction is expected to strengthen Sanmina`s participation in RF technology electronics manufacturing and assembly. It will also provide an assembly operation in Western Europe.
